Overview: The and questions are designed to introduce you to the World Wide Web and resources on the internet.

Part 1:

File structure: Follow your teacher's example on the following skills, and answer the associated questions.

1. Create a directory under your name on drive h: called "bioethics."

2. Copy the following files into your directory from t:\subjects\science\fergie\document

-ethics.doc

-proposal.doc

-turf.doc

-debate.doc

3. How is it useful for you to have these documents in your directory on drive h:?

4. How can you use file management to prevent the problem of an absent team mate having your group's work stored in their directory, inaccessible to you?

Part 2:

Navigating the WWWeb: (if you don't have a internet privilege with your login name you must request that your teacher enter a teacher's password under the login name "Netsurf.")

1. Start Netscape and open the web page that your teacher created. It is stored as t:\subjects\science\fergie\ethics.html

2. Add instructions this page to your bookmarks by selecting Add Bookmark. Select Go To Bookmarks. Just like the file manager you may edit out any bookmarks that you don't need. You may create folders. You may move items using "click and drag."

3. After an internet session you will want to save your bookmarks to your directory in drive h, p:\ethics or drive a. Learn to do that now. How will that be useful on another day?

Part 3:

Researching with Internet

1. Use Alt-Tab to go back to the Program Manager and open Microsoft Word. Open a new document and type in a title: "Notes Bioethics."

2. Alt-Tab back to Netscape. Use the ethics web page created by your teacher to find some useful text. Copy it from the web page and paste it into your word document. Save your word document as a set of notes.

3. Bookmark any useful site that you find on the question and save the bookmark file for later use.

4. Save your word document, make your notes tidy, print them and turn them in stapled to this sheet.
