Research on Bio-Ethics

Overview: For the next 8 days you will be involved in an exploration of some bioethical issue. To whatever degree is necessary we will use the World Wide Web to conduct research. You are encouraged to use other electronic resources such as SIRS or Newsbank. Both are available at any lab computer. The unit will be divided into 4 parts. Below the parts are defined. You will also find a calendar and an assessment table.

Part 1: Learn the Turf: You will engage in a structured activity that is designed to familiarize you with our schools network, the program Netscape and the world wide web. You will use internet to access sites that have information on bioethics. A handout with instructions and questions will be provided and collected for credit.

Part 2: Clarify your Ethical Position by Completing a Research Proposal: In your teams you will use multiple electronic resources to find information on your question. You will complete a document that will serve as a research proposal. By making a research proposal you will have essentially started your research.

Part 3: Conduct Your Research/Organize your Debate: Here you will continue to gather information and plan your debate. Your research team must share responsibility for use of time and resources.

Part 4: Host a Debate: Your group will lead a class debate on the question you have researched. Guidelines for the debate will be provided.
