Majors

There are several available majors/endorsement programs within Science Education.

Thinking of Declaring a Major?

Need help deciding whether one of the Science Education majors is what you want to declare?  You're invited to meet with the Director of Science Education at any time to ask questions and explore options.  Any of the Science Education advisors can give you insight into the teaching profession and into teaching their discipline.

If you are thinking of declaring any science major, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible in order to establish a plan of study.  The study of science is hierarchical, that is one course must precede another in proper sequence if you are to be successful.  Failure to plan almost inevitably leads to delay.

For more information about the majors, see Plans of Study.

Approved Academic Majors

The following majors are currently approved for elementary and secondary certification . For further information on the applicability of a particular major, consult an advisor.

Biology/Chemistry Chemistry/Mathematics Chemistry/Physics
Earth Science/General Science Earth Science/Mathematics General Science - Elementary
General Science - Secondary Earth Science - Secondary Earth Science - Elementary

NOTE: Not all of these majors will lead directly to an additional endorsement. Please see your academic advisor. Students are encouraged to begin an academic major during their freshman and sophomore years and to take courses which overlap with general university requirements. Contents of each major are listed under "Bachelor of Arts in Education - Elementary" for each department in the WWU General Catalog.
